BR Sharma to complete his term on April 26; 3 members already retired

Srinagar, Apr 04 (KNO): All eyes are on key appointments in the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission as its incumbent chairman BR Sharma is completing his term later this month while three other members have already retired. As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Sharma, who was appointed as its head in 2020, would be completing his term as chairman of PSC on April 26. Sharma, who held key positions in J&K and Centre during his bureaucratic career, also served as the erstwhile state’s chief secretary before he went on central deputation during the PDP- BJP rule. It is pertinent to mention that under the legal framework applicable to Jammu & Kashmir after August 5, 2019 constitutional framework, a member of the PSC cannot hold the office beyond 62 years of age. Under the Constitution of India, a member of the State Public Service Commission shall hold the office for a term of six years or till the age of 62 years, whichever is earlier. Apart from Sharma,Prof. Showkat Ahmed Zargar would also retire as member of the PSC this month. Three member of the PSC have already completed their term between January to March this year. While Syed Iqbal Aga (retired development commissioner Works) and Sameer Bharati (former IFS officer)completed their tenure in January, the term of Subash Gupta (former district and sessions judge) came to an end in March this year—(KNO)
